All-Electric Car Unveiled at 2012 Low Carbon Racing Conference

News

Lola Group and Drayson Racing Technologies (DRT) launched their ground-breaking Lola-Drayson B12/69EV all-electric prototype racing car as part of International Motorsport Business Week on 11 January 2012 at the MIA International Low Carbon Conference.

The conference took place at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC) and was headlined by Lola-Drayson B12/69EV project pioneer Lord Drayson, former Minister of Science and Innovation, alongside current Minister for Trade and Investment, Lord Green.

The objective of this project is to construct an electric ultra high-performance vehicle based upon the current Lola LMP1 chassis. This vehicle will be used for the following purposes:

– As a technology demonstration platform for the novel technologies being developed by the project consortium.
– As a time attack car to break the lap records for electric vehicles at tracks around the world – and hence generate publicity and business opportunities for Lola, DRT and their partners. These tracks to include street, circuit and hill climbs.
– As a demonstration of the speed potential of an EV – lapping circuits faster than a current LMP1 diesel.

Supporting the event’s objective of promoting environmentally-friendly technologies, Drayson Racing and technical partner Lola Group unveiled the all-electric prototype, which they are developing as a demonstration platform for a number of new technologies and potentially to set new electric vehicle speed records.
